Monday, March 19th: Summit Bike Club will be joining forces with Salt Lake City Composite and West High School NICA teams to provide greater resources for their high school and middle school programs. Through this association together, Summit Bike Club will be furthering its mission to educate athletes on the skills, safety, and sportsmanship of cycling.
These NICA teams maintain the same leadership and will also have a representative on the Summit Bike Club’s board of directors. The goal is not to change how the teams are run, but rather provide greater opportunities for the athletes. SLC Composite and West High will then be designated as programs of Summit Bike Club, and fall under the organizations 501(c)(3), allowing for better ways to raise funds.
Both teams will also gain access to multiple resources including a trailer, pop-up tents, guest coaches, renewed online presence, and more.
Riders on these high school teams are not required to participate in Summit Bike Club regular season programs. However, Summit Bike Club riders will be highly encouraged to participate with SLC Composite or West during the fall interscholastic season if they live within those boundaries.
About Salt Lake City Composite
Salt Lake City Composite was founded in 2012 alongside the first season of the Utah National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) League. In 2016 West High gained enough riders to require their own team, but continue to work together with Salt Lake City Composite for practices and at races. The teams are currently lead by Kenton Peters and Vicente Planelles.
